Television
Much of my early work involved making general props and odd jobs in TV shows. One of my very first gigs was to build breakaway chairs and cricket bats for The Young Ones (1982-1984). Later on I was started working part time at the BBC, where I became involved in my first major TV shows namely Red Dwarf and Doctor Who. After establishing myself in the Sci-fi Arena, I went on to work on the series Farscape, and evolved my craft to suit bigger budget sci-fi films too (See film page for more)
Red Dwarf (1988-1989)
The long running cult classic has been formative to British Sci-fi TV for over two decades. I worked on the Peter Wragg team to build and paint the eponymous Red Dwarf ship featured in the show. At the time, we were not briefed as to what colour the ship should be, but given the name of the show and the excess red spray paint we had lying around, this was the inevitable result (see below)
Doctor Who (1987-1989)
The longest running sci-fi series in television history and classic of BBC British brilliance, Doctor Who was is the ultimate in classic TV. I was lucky enough to work in the special effects department during the Sylvester McCoy Doctor’s Incarnation before the show was cancelled. It was renewed again in 2005 and became popular in the mainstream once again.
Farscape (1999-2003)
Another cult classic sci-fi TV show I had the privelage of working on came in the form of Farscape. Again working in the effects department, I sculpted and psinted the ‘Pilot’ Character, an enormous fibre glass puppet which featured heavily in the show as the crew’s resident navigator (See Below)
